Frequently Asked Questions

This page will address those questions frequently asked about Women's Ministries. In some cases, we will also attempt to anticipate questions that might be asked and address those as well. If you have specific questions that you would like addressed, use the Contact Us link above to send it to us.

How do we come up with a theme for our WM event/retreat?

First of all, pray for the Lord to give you and your board a creative anointing. He will do it. Then, look around you. Look at women's magazines, websites, catalogs, mall displays, etc. Listen to words of songs, quotes from famous women, and poetry. Notice the names of television shows and movies that are popular with women. The Lord will highlight something for you - and He will give you a scriptural point of reference that ties it all together.

Also, remember that you are welcome to carry the theme from a WM training you attended and use it for your own event. We are all on the same team here. Click here to view a list of WM themes from all around the IPHC.

Are we required to give to every special ministry opportunity?

No. In fact, you are not required to give to any of them. They are, as named, opportunities for ministry. There is a trend circling the globe right now, not just in the church, to live beyond yourself. Special ministry opportunities give local WM groups a chance to do something for someone other than their own congregation.

The special ministry opportunities are varied because different needs speak to different people. One interest group might respond to give funds to one of our colleges through the Feast of Ingathering. Another interest group might really get excited about raising money to help give our hard-working missionaries a bonus at Christmas through the Agnes Robinson Missions Fund. The list could go on. All we ask is that you make your ladies aware of these opportunities. It's great to raise money to do things for our own church, but it is also important to think of the church around the world. Why are the women placed in WM leadership roles expected to go through the Girls' Ministries leader training course (LTC)?

Girls' Ministries was birthed out of Women's Ministries. GM is our very own child. We are so proud of how she has grown, the last 10 years in particular. WM leaders need to have an understanding of how GM functions on the local, conference, and general level. Completing the LTC gives you a foundation that will help you to further the goals of GM.

Why does the WM Day offering go to general Women's Ministries? Doesn't all the other money we raise go there too?

It is true that a lot of money comes through the general WM office. The reality is almost none of it stays here; only the tithes and general project. All those big checks you send to us are collected and the funds forwarded directly to the places you designated to receive them. The WM Day offering is the one opportunity for us to receive additional funds. We use the funds to resource you more effectively by improving the website, updating and distributing promotional materials, and completing special projects.

Why are there no specific guidelines for Women's Ministries pertaining to participating in a business session on the local level? How should we handle this issue?

According to the WM Leaders Gide, "all women who desire membership in local WM, and who participate in any of its programs or activities, may be considered members." Additionally, in consultation with your own pastor, you may apply the same criteria used for church business meetings. i.e. If a woman has been faithful in her devotion to the WM in that local church; if she has given of her time, means, and abilities for the work of that local WM, she should be eligible to vote.
